New Machinery Regulation adopted by the European Council

On 22 May 2023, the European Council granted the final approval of the legislative act - it adopted a new regulation on machinery.

This is the next step in updating the original Machinery Directive from 2006 transformed into a regulation. The goal of the new regulation is to increase the safety and health of workers operating machinery in the European Union.

The next steps will be:

• Signature by the presidents of the Council and the EU Parliament
• Publication in the Official Journal of the European Union
• Entry into force - after 20 days from publication
• Transition period 42 months

The regulation in question was published in the OJ and a press correction has just been issued. Effective from: 4 July 2023. Corrigendum to Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 June 2023 on machinery and repealing Directive 2006/42/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council and Council Directive 73/361/EEC (Official Journal of the European Union L 165 of 29 June 2023).
