Light fittings

In our electric testing laboratory we also test various types of light fittings.

Light fitting is defined as: 

• devices that distribute, filter or change light emitted by one or more light sources;
• and that include all the parts necessary for supporting, fixing and protecting the light sources
• and besides the light sources themselves, if necessary, circuitry accessories including the means for their connection to the mains

What is tested:

• Durability of marking
• Structure
• Points of connection and network connection
• Insulation elements
• Mechanical joints and outlets
• Mechanical strength
• Suspension and adjustment device
• Corrosion resistance
• Protective covers
• Protection against short-circuit
• Connection to the grounding system
• Protection against electric shock
• Protection against ingress of dust, solid foreign bodies and water
• Insulation resistance, electrical strength, touch current and protective conductor current
• Creepage and clearance distances
• Durability tests and thermal tests
• Resistance to heat, burning and sneak current

What is assessed:

• accompanying documentation
  (general description of the electrical equipment, drawings, material data sheets, declarations of conformity of each of the parts, results of structural design calculations, ...)
• instructions
• makring
  (appliance category, degree of ingress protection, ...)

Most frequent problems:

• Improper placement of terminal boards
• Connections potentially causing danger in case of failure
• Inadequate protection against the ingress of foreign bodies and water (improper degree of ingress protection)
• Insufficient information in the instructions
