Ecodesign of electric local heaters

We would like to inform you about the new Regulation (EU) 2024/1103, which introduces updated ecodesign requirements for electric space heaters and separate related control units.    

This Regulation replaces the existing Regulation (EU) 2015/1188 with effect from 1 July 2025 and introduces significant changes that manufacturers should take into account.

The changes aim to increase energy efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of district heaters.

However, for manufacturers this means having to adapt their products and processes to the new requirements.

The main changes include

• Calculation of seasonal energy efficiency: only the regulation declared by the manufacturer will be reflected in the calculation.
• New label markings: The label will include new information on thermal performance and energy consumption (see Table 2 of this Regulation).
• Testing of energy consumption and verification of thermal performance: More emphasis will be placed on accurate testing and verification of these parameters.
• New documentation requirements: Product documentation will have to comply with the new requirements of Annex II.
• New assessment methodology for control units: A new methodology for assessing control units is being introduced.
